Homeownership is a melding of art and science. Plunk is the first mobile app designed to help you increase your home value by leveraging artificial intelligence and guiding you through the right projects. We also believe in inspiring your homeownership journey, with content and ideas we source from around the world—and through this blog, we hope to share with you some of the designs that inspire us as homeowners.
Design inspo: kitchens
The kitchen is an organic gathering space. As the cliché goes, parties inevitably end up in the kitchen. Cooking and food preparation represent many things: at the core, it’s a necessity. But, it’s also an art, a science, a hobby, a joy…. When you have a beautiful environment for it that makes it enjoyable, efficient, safe, and inspiring, well, that’s living.
Design inspo: walls and ceilings and floors and doors
At it’s most basic, a room is as simple as walls, a floor, and a ceiling. And some means of entry and exit. When a room is truly ‘dressed,’ however, we have myriad options for creative and stunning use of those same surfaces.
Design inspo: color
When we employ color(s) in design, we can create impact—subtle or immediate. We can illustrate themes, dictate mood, highlight and spotlight form and create drama. Color has the power to amuse, sooth, calm, energize, and shock.
Design inspo: outdoor spaces
A home is more than the four walls that protect you from the elements. It includes that patch of plein air that surrounds it. Those hectares of grass and trees that we can sculpt into an oasis for living amidst nature. In the sun, or shaded from it… in the breeze… in the water, in front of the fire… on the deck and working with the fire…. There are myriad ways to get outside and enjoy the elements. Whether you treasure that atmosphere as calming or energizing, for relaxing solo or for entertaining, your home can be transformed significantly with structures and designs from the simple to the complex. Your lifestyle and your world can be expanded almost infinitely when you build out and into your little piece of earth and sky.
Design inspo: fall
It’s autumn, and autumn on the outside is such a force that it inspires autumn on the inside. We embrace the gourd, and pine cones and leaves in their last days and the color orange. We triple-wrap thick-knitted scarves, and pad around in new, cozy socks. It’s that season again—atmospherically and stylistically the most compelling time of the year.
Design inspo: dark
The Dark Side need not be the genesis point of ‘evil.’ Come over to it… and see how warm, comfy, and welcoming it can be. Dark decor is elegant as Audrey’s black dress, as masculine as an oaky cigar club, as classic as a Steinway piano. As relaxed as a serene night of sleep, as durable as a vintage leather biker jacket. Working with ‘the dark’ lends an air of seriousness. You probably won’t convey much whimsy. But, there is beauty in the gravitas and mystery. The dark can be executed with all manner of styles: traditional, French Empire, Bauhaus, modern, post-modern, futurist… what have you. It’s versatile and mixable. High-end and low. New and vintage.
Design inspo: displaying art
Art is often a mirror of ourselves. What we love and choose to display in our environments is a reflection of who we are, who we want to be, what we want the world to be… or it can be none of those things. Maybe it’s an expression of fury, fantasy, unrequited love, or fear?
